San Xavier Mission School

San Xavier Mission School has had a long history of being a great school for extracurricular sports. We have won many awards that are displayed in the school library. This year we are continuing this tradition by being in both basketball and volleyball leagues. There are other sports such as: track, football, baseball, etc., and if we have enough students that are interested in these please let your teachers know and maybe our school can do these also.

The San Xavier Mission School's Sports Program is an after school program to promote team spirit through exercise and competition. The program is offered to students in the fourth through eighth grades. The teams are divided into Varsity and Junior Varsity squads. All eighth grade athletes must play for the Varsity team in basketball and volleyball. All seventh and eighth grade athletes must participate on the Varsity team in track.

Student-Athletes are required to follow the coaches' rules, attend practice, and most importantly, maintain a 72% or better in all classes. Student-Athletes are required to bring water to every practice and game. Student Athletes are required to notify a coach of an absence. Student-Athletes are required to make a $10 purchase for a uniform T-shirt. Shorts must be black and socks must be white. Court shoes are necessary for safety during the games.

Parents/Guardians are expected to positively support the coach and the SXMS sports program. Parents/Guardians need to provide transportation to/from practice and games. Parents/Guardians need to encourage students to study to maintain good grades. Parents/Guardians need to volunteer to fundraise to help the sports program. Parents/Guardians agree to follow all the diocesan sports guidelines.

Coaches are expected to communicate their expectations to the athlete and parents/guardians. Coaches must maintain a positive team spirit that encourages athletes to participate and enjoy the sport being played. During tournaments, Varsity coaches are not required to play every eligible player unless she/he does it by choice. Junior Varsity coaches must play every eligible player. The coach may reduce an athlete's play time if the athlete misses practice. Coaches will be respectful to athletes, parents/guardians, and other coaches. Coaches will be fingerprinted and have background checks.

Students in Grades 4-8 are welcome to participate in Diocesan sports. Students must maintain good grades and demonstrate positive sportsmanship to participate. Written permission and physical are required for Diocesan sport activities. Parents and relatives are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times during practice and games.
